Tour of India, Nepal & Bhutan Travel Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Kolkata

On arrival in Kolkata, meeting and assistance by our airport representative followed by transfer to hotel.

Overnight stay at hotel in Kolkata.

Day 02: Kolkata – Bagdogra (Flight) Bagdogra–Darjeeling (90Kms/03 hrs)

In time transfer to Kolkata airport to connect flight for Bagdogra, on arrival in Bagdogra meeting and assistance followed by drive to Darjeeling. On arrival check in at hotel.

Overnight stay at hotel in Darjeeling. 

Day 03: Darjeeling

Early Morning (at 04:00 am) drive to Tiger hill (8,400 ft.) to watch the spectacular sunrise over Mt. Khangchendzongha (28,208 ft. Worlds’ 3rd highest peak), on your way back visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. After breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, P.N. Zoological Park (Thursday closed), Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refugee self-help Centre (Sunday closed), Tea Garden (outer view), Ropeway and Japanese Temple.

Day 04: Darjeeling – Gangtok ( 115 Kms/03 hrs)

After breakfast drive through the hills, paddy fields and small villages before arriving in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim. The town profits from a spectacular setting with fine views of the Kangchenzenga Range. On arrival check into the hotel.

Day 05: Gangtok

Morning drive to Tsomgo Lake which is located on the Nathu La Highway, the original trade route to Lhasa. This holy lake is completely frozen in winter and there are excellent views of the Kangchendzonga Range from the nearby ridge.

After a leisurely walk around the lake return to Gangtok to further explore the town. Places of interest include the unique Research Institute of Tibetology established in 1958 to promote research on Tibet and Mahayana Buddhism as well as the Enchey Monastery and the Tsuklakhang, or Royal Chapel, which is the major place of worship and is lavishly decorated.

Day 06: Gangtok – Kalimpong ( 65 Kms/02 hrs)

Morning after breakfast drive to Kalimpong A remote hill station set in beautiful wooded mountain scenery. 

Kalimpong occupies a strategic position of past historical significance and was the main meeting point on the trade route to the old three ‘Closed Lands’ of Tibet, Bhutan and Nepal. Visit Kalimpong Kalimpong a few of the interesting monasteries in the town, the Ringkinpong Monastery has fantastic views and the Thongsa Gompa Bhutanese Monastery was built in 1692, as well as Doctor Graham’s Homes which was started by a missionary in 1900 when he admitted six needy children into his care.

Day 07: Kalimpong – Phuentsholing ( 175 Kms/05 hrs)

Morning drive to overland entrance to Bhutan, Phuentsholing is a fast developing town at the base of the Himalayan foothills.

On your arrival in Jaigaon, the India border settlement, leave your driver and continue through the immigration procedures of both India and Bhutan. Once in Phuentsholing you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

Day 08: Phuentsholing – Thimphu (170 Kms/06 hrs)

Morning drive to Thimphu - Journey to the Bhutanese capital Thimphu – a drive that will introduce you not only to the country but also to its vastly differing vegetation.

As you pass the mountains you will cross through dense tropical teak and bamboo forest, characteristic of these lower altitudes, before ascending higher towards Thimphu and its more Spartan alpine vegetation. On arrival check into the hotel.

Day 09: Thimphu

Morning it is an early start to visit the bustling Thimphu market which attracts people from all over the region.

Later this morning return to the town and begin your day of sightseeing at the Tibetan inspired National Memorial Chorten. Built in 1974 in honour of Jigme Dorji Wangchuck the third King of Bhutan. After lunch make a brief visit to the National Institute of Traditional Medicine where traditional medicines are researched, prepared and dispensed to the local Bhutanese before continuing onto the Trashi Chhoe Dzong.

Day 10: Thimphu – Punakha ( 77kms/03 hrs)

Morning drive to Punakha, on arrival visit to the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu Rivers where you will have the opportunity to explore the Punakha Dzong. Completed in 1638 AD the Dzong has had numerous additions to its original structure – partly due to fires in the 1750s, mid-19th Century and, more recently in 1986 – and there are numerous chapels and temples within its walls.

Day 11: Punakha – Paro ( 130Kms/03 hrs)

Morning drive to Paro. On arrival check in at hotel.

Later visit to Drukgyel Dzong. Built in 1649 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Drukgyel Dzong was originally constructed to reaffirm Bhutanese control over the important land route into Tibet and also to commemorate the defeat, in battle, of Tibetan invaders five years before.

Day 12: Paro

Morning drive through the Paro Valley to the base of the climb that leads to the famous Taktsang Monastery. A major pilgrimage site for the Bhutanese since Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal visited the monastery in 1646, Taktsang – or ‘Tiger’s Nest’ – is spectacularly located 900 meters above the valley floor perched on the edge of a cliff.

Day 13: Paro – Kathmandu (Flight)

Breakfast transfer to Paro airport to connect flight for Kathmandu. On arrival meeting and assistance followed by transfer to hotel. Evening walk around Durbar Square area.

Day 14: Kathmandu

After breakfast  visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, is the historic seat of Shah Dynasty. The Durbar Square, with its old temples and places, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people.

Enjoy the tour to Swoyambhunath Stupa, atop the hillock is one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Nepal enlisted in the World Heritage Site. Also visit Patan Durbar Square, like its counterpart in Kathmandu, is an enchanting mélange of palace buildings, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda temples. Listed as a World Heritage Site, the former royal palace complex is the center of Patan’s religious and social life, and houses a museum containing an array of bronze statues and religious objects.

Day 15: Kathmandu - Delhi (Flight)

In time transfer to Kathmandu airport to connect flight for Delhi and onward destination.
